Rosa Sabido has lived in the U.S. and been a contributing member of her rural Colorado community for over 30 years. She is 53 years old and has no criminal record. She is hardworking, a valued caregiver for her aging parents (both of whom are naturalized US citizens) and she was the secretary for the association of four Catholic Churches. She uses her bilingual language skills to assist others. Rosa also shares her considerable cooking skills with her community through delicious catered meals and her famous tamales, the proceeds of which go toward Sanctuary costs.
Rosa first came to the U.S. in 1987 on a B2 visitor visa, traveling back and forth to Mexico until 1998 when she was denied entry to the U.S Desperate to return to her parents in the U.S., she entered the country without inspection. Once back in the U.S. she pursued various legal avenues to gain permanent residence but to no avail.
In 2008, ICE arrested Rosa in her home, but released her after a few hours under an Order of Supervision mainly due to medical issues. Then in 2011 she was granted a one year Stay of Removal. Each year since, she has applied for and been granted Stays of Removal, until 2017 when her 7th Stay of Removal application was denied with no explanation.
